Chest Pain

Chest pain can be due to a many different problems, a lot of them are not serious but some of them are. Sometimes the nature of the pain suggests what the cause is, otherwise tests are required to help work out the cause of the pain.

Common heart problems

causing chest pain are: coronary artery disease (“angina”), heart valve malfunction.

Other problems

causing chest pain are: indigestion and inflammation of the rib/sternum joints.

Tests

that patients with chest pain often require are: an ECG, an echocardiogram (ultrasound scan of the heart),blood tests and either some form of stress test or coronary artery imaging.
